An exceptional opportunity: Farm Manager role at Cabalva

January 12, 20264 min read

From time to time, a role comes along that is more than a job. It’s an opportunity to step into a farming system that is already moving in the right direction — ecologically, practically and financially — and help shape its next chapter.

This is one of those moments.

Cabalva, an outstanding 800-acre organic stock farm on the Powys / Herefordshire border, is seeking a Farm Manager with an understanding of holistic and regenerative land management. The farm runs pure bred Aberdeen Angus cattle, Easy Care sheep and perry pear production, and is committed to working with natural processes while building resilient, profitable enterprises.

Why this opportunity, and why now?

Over recent years, Cabalva has benefitted greatly from the leadership of Geraint Powell, who brought holistic thinking into everyday farm decision-making. The results have been strong enough that the owners are fully committed to continuing in this direction.

“Cabalva is a farm with huge potential. Working there allowed me to bring together livestock management, ecology and financial decision-making in a very practical way. It’s a place where good thinking is genuinely supported.”

— Geraint Powell, Farm Manager

Geraint is now returning to his family farm. While we are genuinely delighted for him, his move creates an opening for the right next person to step into a role that is well supported, well resourced and already aligned with regenerative principles.

We are also very pleased to hear just what a super job Geraint did at Cabalva — leaving the farm in excellent shape and well positioned for what comes next.

“Geraint’s time at Cabalva showed us what’s possible when someone brings strong farm management skills together with holistic thinking. We’re excited to find the right person to build on that foundation and help shape the next phase of the farm.”

— Corisande Albert, Owner

Who might this role suit?

This opportunity may be a great fit for someone who:

  • Understands whole-farm decision-making and natural processes.

  • Is confident working independently, while collaborating closely with engaged owners.

  • Enjoys adapting, communicating and growing enterprises over time.

  • Is excited by regenerative agriculture that is measured, thoughtful and grounded in real-world farming.

The role offers a competitive package, including an exceptional four-bedroom farmhouse in a unique and beautiful setting, with excellent local amenities, schools, shops and pubs.

Cabalva is seeking a Farm Manager

Cabalva is an exceptional beef, sheep and perry pear farm near the market town of Hay-on-Wye. We are certified organic and farm according to regenerative principles.

Currently we have a herd of pure bred Aberdeen Angus cows and a flock of wool shedding Easy Care sheep and are looking to grow our enterprises over the next few years.

We are looking for someone with an understanding of optimum, low-cost production, high regard for the environment and a good appreciation of natural processes. We prize profit over yield.

We are working on several diversifications within the farm with a small and dedicated team – so your ability to be adaptable and to communicate are key.

A knowledge of direct sales of beef, lamb and pork would be advantageous, but the enthusiasm to learn a new skill just as important.

A track record of excellent farm management is key – as this role requires you to work independently, albeit with the close support and input from the farm owners.

There is a competitive package which includes an exceptional 4-bedroom farmhouse in a very unique setting. Local amenities – shops, pubs and schools – are second to none.

Excellent references, a hard-working cheerful attitude and a willingness both to learn new skills and share your own are key to this position.
